Description: Rabbi Altman will present
on some of the most important halachic and ethical issues surrounding population
screening and options for carriers. GirlTalk is a peer advocacy initiative in
which women in the community will be trained to raise awareness about Jewish
genetic disorders and to advocate for genetic screening. These volunteers will
act as links between community members and vital health information by distributing
resources and assisting in the planning of programs on any number of related
topics. for their own peers. The goal of the program is to use volunteer advocacy
and intervention as a way to communicate the importance of information about
Jewish genetic disorders, genetic counseling, and screening options.
