An ordained Rabbi and graduate of Jewish Theological Seminary (2000), Heather served as Associate Rabbi for three years at Chicago's Anshe Emet Synagogue (2002-2005) and as Assistant Rabbi for two years at Bet Torah Synagogue in Mount Kisco, New York (2000-2002). As a congregational rabbi she created original curricula that approached education and prayer through yoga, meditation, and music. She directed a comprehensive Jews by Choice program and initiated myriad programming opportunities for women and families. Rabbi Altman is the founder of 12 Step Torah, a JACS (Jewish Alcoholics, Chemically Dependant Persons and Significant Others) meeting for Jews in recovery.

Rabbi Altman has facilitated Jewish healing rituals in diverse environments ranging from correctional facilities to chaplaincy. Certified in Chemical Dependency and Spiritual Counseling, she sits on the Advisory Board for Jewish Healing Network of Chicago. She is currently completing a certification in Mesadrei Gittin to allow her to facilitate women and men through the Jewish divorce rituals.

Engaged in leading others through the process of spiritual discernment, Heather is a Spiritual Director (Morah Derekh) certified by the Morei Derekh Jewish Spiritual Direction Training Program and is a graduate of the Institute for Jewish Spirituality Rabbinic Leadership Program.

Merging her Jewish spiritual practices with traditional eastern yoga and meditation, Heather is a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher and a graduate of the Forrest Yoga Teacher Training, with additional teacher training with renowned yoga masters Seane Corn and Shiva Rae. Heather has created a fusion of Jewish and yoga wisdom in Rav Yoga and Tefilla Yoga, which she teaches in classes, workshops and retreats in Chicago and nationally. She created and launched Netivot/Pathways: A Jewish Center for Growth and Healing and consults, trains and offers these programs in the larger community.

Heather lives in Chicago, Illinois with her husband Jeff Block, stepdaughter Haley, triplet baby girls, Hallel, Emunah and Noam, and two large dogs.
