Rabbi Heather Altman is an ordained Rabbi and graduate of Jewish Theological Seminary (2000), who served as Associate Rabbi for three years at Chicago's Anshe Emet Synagogue and as Assistant Rabbi for two years at Bet Torah Synagogue in Mount Kisco, New York.

As a congregational rabbi she created original curricula that approached education and prayer through yoga, meditation, and music. She directed a comprehensive Jews by Choice program initiated myriad programming opportunities for women and families, and catalyzed the Chicago community to create support and education on addiction in Jewish families. As a pastoral counselor, Heather has facilitated Jewish healing rituals in diverse environments ranging from correctional facilities to hospice. As Chaplain at Terence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center in New York, she assisted patients and families through the illness and dying process. Following September 11th, she created healing and prayer services, and volunteered for the Red Cross on the Spiritual Response to the World Trade Center Attacks. Certified in Chemical Dependency and Spiritual Counseling, Heather founded 12 Step Torah, a bi-monthly meeting for Jewish addicts, and served as Rabbi at retreats for Jewish Alcoholics, Chemically Dependant Persons and Significant Others (JACS). She sits on the Advisory Board for Jewish Healing Network of Chicago.

Engaged in leading others through the process of spiritual discernment, Heather is completing the Morei Derekh Jewish Spiritual Direction Training through the Yedidya Center and is a graduate of the Institute for Jewish Spirituality Rabbinic Leadership Program. Merging her Jewish spiritual practices with traditional eastern yoga and meditation, Heather is a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher and a graduate of the Forrest Yoga Teacher Training Certification Program, a Shiva Rae Vinyasa Flow Yoga Teacher Training, and numerous workshops with renowned teacher Seane Corn. Heather has pioneered Rav Yoga and Tefilla Yoga, which she teaches in classes, workshops and retreats in her hometown of Chicago and nationally.  She created and launched Netivot/Pathways: A Jewish Center for Growth and Healing and consults, trains and offers these programs in the larger community. She lives looking out over Lake Michigan with husband Jeff Block, s-daughter Haley, and their two dogs.
